Mag Ruffman

Mag Ruffman is a television producer, writer, actress and building contractor. She spent seven years in a corset as “Olivia Dale” on CBC/Disney’s beloved Road to Avonlea, and five seasons in a tool belt as host, creator and producer of the fix-it classic A Repair to Remember (78 episodes) and the workshop series Anything I Can Do (52 episodes), which subsequently aired on PBS in America and in more than 35 countries worldwide. Mag also created and hosted the wildly popular relationship show Men On Women (44 episodes) for W Network in Canada.

As an actress Mag appeared most recently in several Christmas movies for Netflix, and in Margaret Atwood’s hit miniseries Alias Grace on CBC and Netflix. She is currently performing a one-woman show titled Mag Ruffman’s Self Help Cabaret.


Mag has written movies, TV series, advertising copy, plays, infomercial scripts and magazine articles. She is currently writing a series of novels for young readers. Mag’s syndicated weekly newspaper column, ToolGirl, appeared across Canada from 2000-2013 in various newspapers including the Toronto Star and the Toronto Sun. Mag was named one of North America’s top 10 home and garden columnists based on influence online and in social media.


Mag is the author of How Hard Can It Be?, a collection of projects and repairs for beginners (McClelland and Stewart, Canada, 2003 and Beyond Words, U.S., 2005). Mag’s publishing company, ToolGirl Press, released We’re All In This Together, (2008) an intimate conversation about life with Red Green creator Steve Smith. The biography became a Canadian best seller within two weeks of being released, even though it was sold only through hardware stores.
